It’s mid-March, and you know what that means! Spring is around the corner, and people all over the world have begun getting into all things green. The grass is starting to show it’s true colors, buds are about to start popping, and St. Patrick’s day is the classic kickoff party for the green season. We all love to celebrate the holiday, and to claim we are X% Irish, but what is it all about?
Why do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
St. Patrick’s Day is held on March 17th in countries with people of Irish descent and has been celebrated for centuries. It’s also known as The Feast Day of St. Patrick, and commemorates Saint Patrick as one of Christianity’s great evangelizing saints. The holiday also celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as Irish heritage and culture in general. Many restaurants and bars will serve corned beef with cabbage, and host bands that play traditional Irish music for the week surrounding St. Patty’s Day.
The Irish Potato Famine of 1845 drove many Irish people from their homes, and they settled all around the globe. Because of this, celebrations have historically been bigger in places where the Irish relocated than in Ireland itself! Today, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival and is one of the most celebrated holidays in America.
St. Patrick’s Day in Minnesota
Minnesota has a large Irish population, and their contributions to our state have left us all with a little Irish in us. We have great parades and parties to celebrate our Irish friends and neighbors. It also happens to fall smack in the middle of our transition from the frigid, colorless winter to the seasons of sunshine and patio happy hours. If you’re looking for a reason not to party, St. Patty’s Day is offering little to keep you at home.
The Pourhouse is getting in on the 2020 party with the St. Patrick’s Day Crawl on Saturday. Crawl With Us is back with another holiday bar crawl, and this one is set to be a biggie. We’ll be turning the streets of Minneapolis green with thousands of local Irish, as well as the Irish at heart. If you’ve never participated in one of our bar crawls, there are a lot of exciting things to prepare yourself for.
Bar crawls are a great way to meet your neighbors. Everyone is out to have a good time, and you have ample time to walk and talk. Most people dress up, so you automatically have ice breakers and topics for conversation. Crawls are also a great way to get out with a group of your friends and not be crammed into a single location all night. You are all on a mission, and it adds a splash of special to the party.
All Crawl With Us events are equipped with the party favors that keep us coming back, and this one is no exception. Not only can you find great drink specials at each participating establishment, but you get a bunch of great perks included with your ticket. You can also take home a $500 prize if you can put together the costume of all costumes. Just take a look at all these goodies!
Your Crawl Ticket Includes:
- 3 Complimentary Drinks/Items
- Custom Lucky Badge & Lanyard
- Drink Specials Exclusive To Our Crawlers
- Food Specials at Select Locations
- Free Cover with Our Lucky Badge
- Professional Photographers
- Exclusive Access To Our Crawl Map
- $500 Costume Contest
Check-in is at The Pourhouse, so once you’ve checked in, it’s time to pop over to the bar for a free Drake’s Sunrise shot with your yellow voucher to get things started. Make sure to arrive early, because the free shot is only available during the check-in window from 4-6pm. If you are assembling an epic costume and can’t make it that early, don’t worry. We’ve got great drink specials running until 10pm, including $3 green or orange Jell-O shots, $4 rail drinks, and $5 domestic beers. You won’t miss out on a thing!
St. Patrick’s Day is definitely a holiday that’s known to get a little rowdy, so it’s a good idea to plan your ride ahead of time. As always, The Pourhouse’s location on the light rail line makes life a lot easier for those of us who live along the lines. If that doesn’t work for you, it’s a big day for rideshare drivers, so you shouldn’t have any trouble making it home safely.
If you’re feeling like breaking from your winter hibernation this weekend, check-in begins at 4pm at The Pourhouse downtown on Saturday, March 14. Bring your friends and a great costume for a shot at the $500 prize. (Pro tip: Themed group costumes are always a hit!) We hope to see you out there!
